HALF A GLASS

Untitled

August? Ugh! 2013, you are too much. Herein lies an attempt at a life update:

Firstly (as those that follow me on instagram already know), I went to Sweden! Three weeks away with Apryl, visiting our friend Helen who has been living there for some years. We spent the first half of our trip in Stockholm, where we subleased an apartment in the suburbs and spent our time picnicking, swimming, sleeping in, cycling, eating foods, and generally exploring the city at a leisurely pace.

Sadly just a few days into our trip I received word from home that Meg had suddenly fallen ill, having displayed some difficulty walking one evening which digressed to complete immobility by morning. Friends rushed her to the vet but there was no hope, and there she died being petted and loved by three of my dear friends. Meg was 16 years old, a real sweetheart and a friend. The quiet of her absence was such a sad thing to come home to. She is missed.

But, as they say, the show must go on. The second half of our time away was spent cruising, sailing, summerhouse-ing, sunning and exploring. Sweden is really, really good at summer and I did, dead kittens aside, have a really great time. Promise.

And then… three days after I arrived home I was, how do you say, hit by a car while cycling home from work? I wont say much about the accident other than that I was lucky to get out of it so lightly, all things considered. A collarbone broken in two places, some impressive bruising, a few stitch behind my ear and then, two weeks later, a very small subdural haematoma - a bleed on the surface of my brain – the delayed result of head trauma from the collision. Its been four weeks now of hospital, pain, shuffling from bed to couch and back again,  learning to function with just one arm, and then more (new, worse) pain, more hospital, being really sick and sleeping for a whole week (all this while being looked after really well by excellent babes), and now, finally, healing slowly.

Yes, really. Half a glass. See?

PRINT SHOP

A PHOTO OF SOME PHOTOS. HOW META.

Hello! Did you know I have a print shop? As in, like, an actual store on the internet from which you can order prints of my photographs that I will in turn print, package and send to your house, via post, in exchange for cash money?

Yep, I totally do!

In actual fact I set the shop up about a million years ago, in response to email requests I'd been reiceving, but never did mention it here because, well ... to be honest, my film archiving system for the last 15 years has been to shove each new packet of negatives into any one of four plastic tubs. Big, bulging tubs that I'd have to wade through for hours each time I sold a print! Needless to say, though I was always excited to see that someone liked one of my photographs enough to hang it on their wall, the whole process of actually MAKING the print filled me with a kind of dread.

But never fear, as the above picture suggests, this story DOES have a happy ending! I've spent the last ten thousand years (2 weeks?) sorting my negatives into little plastic pockets and neatly filing them away. Everything in its place. Phew. What a relief!

In fact, I even went one step further, changed up the graphics & ordered a whole heap of prints, so I have a bunch of stuff 'in stock', ready & waiting to go. Can you even..? Its been pretty good actually - Ive been getting my film scanned straight to disc for years, and so had never even seen most of my photos printed! AND EVERYTHING LOOKS SO MUCH NICER IN PRINT. WOAH!

So yep, I'd love it if you went and took a look over there. Let me know what you think, even. Is there an image you think I really should have listed? Did I do a spelling booboo somewhere? Is the whole thing just stupid and weird? Tell me!

(Oh, and you can order something too, if you like. I mean, no pressure... But if you did then I wont even be grumpy about it or anything. Promise. You can even order any of the images up there as 'custom prints' in a whole heap of sizes. Rad!).

While we're at it, why dont I just go ahead & offer a celebratory discount code? I mean, to celebrate the fact that you've read this far? How does 15% sound? Just add the code AHAPPYENDING at check out, if you wanna.

TL;DR - I was shit at life but am now slightly less so. Someone give me a medal. Also, you can buy prints of my photos here.

CHRONIC BITCHFACE

strange fruitgrumpypicnikfile_DZR8IXDISLIKE

I was recently pulled up for neglecting my cat, Meg, around here. And I must confess, its true- the poor thing suffers from a severe case of chronic bitchface, so is often over-looked in favor of the peach when the camera is out.

Credit where credits due though, right? Meg is about seven thousand years old (15-ish?) and has gallantly endured more than her fair share of puppy insanity over the last few years. As the matriarch of the family, she can scare the hounds out of the best sun-baking spots with just a sideward glance but, secretly, I know she loves it around here. She's even just started sneaking under my doona these last few cold nights... Just dont tell her I told you that, the lady has a reputation to uphold!

xmas lunch

Christmas lunch is never anything too extravagant around here. Cold Meats, Prawns and Salad, then Nanna's Trifle and a Pavlova topped with the biggest most delicious Rasberries picked from my Grandpa's garden. All eaten on plastic plates (shhhhh!) in my Nannas garden. Those two kids are the youngest of my nieces and nephews (Ive got 3 of each!) and are pretty damned cute, right? RIGHT! Well, in any case, wishing you all the happiest of holidays (and so on and so forth) !
